I want to start taking more pictures. I don't know what it is about being at school that stops me from taking all that many, because when I'm home, and over the summer I usually love it, but I just don't feel the creative juices that bring me to take out my camera all that often when in Boston. I thought that maybe it was just because I forget I always have my camera with me, and even when I think something would be a cool shot, I don't think to pull out the camera to capture it.
The last few nights I have been walking home a lot, the weather has been tame enough and I have been bundled up enough that I am able to get from school to home on foot without problem, and especially since we're in the midst of the autumn foliage I have been taking advantage of wandering through the common whenever possible. The other day I was walking home, and I realized I had my camera with me. It was low on battery, but I thought, Garrett, just take pictures you'll be happy you have them later.
Not some of my favorites, but I like that I captured the immense red I usually feel at this time of year (I don't mean red entirely literally, I also mean just all the emotional baggage that comes associated with that color).
In the common I noticed as of yesterday (I think the stormy weather of the last few days is to blame) most of the trees are shedding their last leaves. It makes Winter seem really close. The floor of the common was absolutely covered with this thick blanket of leaves.
This is just the corner that looks at the public garden from the common. Simple.
Charles Street is a fan favorite of mine at this time of the year. It is at the base of Beacon Hill, so it has all of these really quaint stores and restaurants that are all overpriced, but really fairytaleish. It really represents the Disney-idealized version of Boston I like to live in. None of the buildigns are all that high, it has all the brick walkways and really narrow streets and real gas lamps. Around fall its just such a cute place to be, and it's even better after Thanksgiving when all the trees on the side of the road have the Christmas Twinkle lights.
I cross Longfellow bridge everyday in order to get to Boston from Cambridge. It has some of the best views of Boston. As I was getting onto the bridge I saw this tree who's leaves were so red it really looked like fire.
And these are just some of the views I get of Boston from the bridge. Here's the main skyline image of my city.
And from the other side looking backwards:
So one journey has been photodocumented, I hope to have more, and more interesting pictures here in the near future. I'm sure with a Thanksgiving trip coming up in the next few days that won't be too much of an issue.

These pictures will serve as a reminder later on in life what a wonderfu place Boston was to go to college. Treasure it! I can tell that when you're home for XMas that we're going to need to have "that talk" again about your senior year in college. Make it Great! You will never come this way again.

Also, you should be sure to take photos of your friends! I always feel totally lame at the beginning of the night when I whip out my camera and make people pose awkwardly, but as people get used to the flashes and clicking I get some really fun and cute candids that I treasure the morning after. And I know that when I graduate and people move away, I'm going to be so happy I have all these photos from senior year.
