Happy late fourth of July everyone! I had a lot of fun yesterday, and I am still trying to rest up a bit from the crazy lack of sleep I have been enduring lately. Last week ended really well, but I think everyone at Circle was really ready for the weekend by the end of Thursday, it was just such an emotionally and physically exhausting first week, which makes me wonder what the rest of the summer will be like, since each class is only going to get harder, and this week was only four days long. We will see.
My favorite moment of the week (this is a little bit of Garrett bragging time) was when I sang in our musical theatre class. Everyone is bringing in songs right now they would like to work on, and potentially perform for our showcase (which is on August 5 for all those interested). I would say most of the people in my group have really nice voices, quite a few classical students, some good belters, but no one has had all that much acting the song work (or at least I'm hoping they haven't had that much of it) because some of the people who have gone up to perform, I'll put it this way, I would love to see LaFeber's reaction to them singing.
So I brought in the song "Finishing the Hat" from Sunday in the Park With George. It's one of my favorite songs, and I'm not able to work on it at school since it's a Sondheim piece (and we're not allowed to do Sondheim until our last semester). I had tried to do some work on my song in the last night or two, but regardless when I got up to sing I got extremely nervous, partly I think because I had to sing so high and it was only 9:30 in the morning. Anyway I got up and did my thing and then afterwards our teacher told me that I had an extremely advanced interpretation of the song. It felt nice to hear that. So I get to work on that song this summer.
Thursday night after class I went to dinner with my friends Anwyn and Dianna. Afterwards we were met by some other Circle people and we wondered around a bit until we made it to Anwyn's apartment (she lives right in Hell's Kitchen so is conveniently close to the school, it's also a very ncie apartment if I do say) and we watched the results show of So You Think You Can Dance. I have to say I was a little bit disappointed, neither of the people I thought deserved to be kicked off.
Yesterday was my first day to sleep in, it was SO nice! But eventually I needed food, so I got dressed and everything so that I could leave, and then I started my way over to Julia's apartment. I love her place, I kept telling her that while I was there, but I have to reiterate, it is so nice. Her room has such a great view (you can see the Empire State Building) and it's in this really quite secluded area with lots of greenery. I also got to meet a whole bunch of her NYU friends. We all played Rock Band for quite a while until Julia and I left to get food before we went to join Teresa for the fireworks. We went to this border line sketchy Chicken place for dinner, that for all it's dinginess was really tasty. And then...fireworks time!
Julia's apartment is right on the east river and 23rd street, which is where Teresa wanted to watch the fireworks from, she was there before us, so we had to manage our way through the chaos (literal chaos) to find her. We were literally sitting on the freeway to watch
Now we got here around 6 o'clock, fully aware that the fireworks wouldn't start until 9 at the earliest. But we wanted to make sure that we had a good spot. Over the next three hours, a few more of Teresa's friends came, and about four of my friends from Circle joined up with us too.
Now while we were waiting, we did a lot of things including eating cookies, and playing Taboo. But nothing was as much fun as Ashley. Ashley was this four year old girl who's parents were paying absolutely no attention to her. For the first half hour or so she was hilarious because she is straight out of an MTV generation, the language she used, the music she was singing for us and how she was dancing was downright hilarious. But no one had a better relationship with her than Jeff...
You see, the first half hour we were fine with her, but after that we were like, where are her parents!? Because we were NOT being paid to babysit, and that's pretty much what we were doing. Well Jeff was talking to her, and she demanded a lot from people, like she would tell us to shut up, or pay attention. Jeff eventually couldn't handle it anymore, so he looked at her and said "you know you're not entitled to anything!" She got really mad and looked at him and scolded him by saying "you're not my friend!" and he came right back with "I never said you were my friend." It was such an amusingly awkward moment.
So then the fireworks started. I have never seen fireworks like these before. We were sitting directly in front of where the were launched from, and they were so big that my entire range of vision was taken up by them. It was absolutely incredible, and lasted well over 30 minutes pretty much non stop
After the fireworks we started the mass Exent of the turnpike. Fortunately since we were there so early, they fixed it up so we were the first ones to leave too, so it was really easy to get out of the mass of people, the only problem was that there were so many people heading in the same direction. My friends from Circle and I made our way back to Times Square so we could get some food and then head over to Anwyn's apartment (quick FYI Anwyn is the blonde, Elizabeth is the one who looks like Anne Hathaway, Dianna has the short brown hair and Jeff is the guy).
On our way to Subway, we passed by Gypsy, just as the stars were getting out, so of COURSE we had to wait for Patti, which we did. We also came by an enormous model head of Eddie Murphy (what more could a boy want?)
I was going to go back to my apartment at this point, but we were all getting up early so we could student rush the Little Mermaid this morning, so I was convinced to join the slumber party and we all stayed at Anwyn's for the night. It was really fun, we were all playing games and chatting until about 2 in the morning, when we finally just collapsed for exhaustion. Then we got up at about 7:30 to head over to the Lunt Fontaine theatre.
And then we got first row center tickets for tonight!!! I am SO excited to see the show tonight! I finally got back to my apartment, and showered so I feel much better, I think a nap might be necessary before tonight.
Also, on a side note, one of my suite mates needs to learn what the appropriate amount of tissue paper to use is, because for the second time since I got here the toilet can't be used because it is clogged, and we don't own a plunger! ANGER!
That's all for now, I really do need a nap.
